Todd M. Hackett, a 60-year-old resident of Hopkins, tragically lost his life in a devastating house fire on Harmon Rd. in Columbia, SC. Hackett was found unresponsive in a front bedroom after the fire, which broke out early in the morning around 5:40 a.m. The Columbia-Richland Fire Department responded swiftly to the scene, where they encountered flames raging throughout the home. Despite their efforts to contain the blaze and gain entry through the back of the residence, the fire caused significant destruction before it was fully extinguished.

The emergency crews’ quick response led to the discovery of Hackett, who was immediately moved outside by firefighters. Sadly, despite rescue efforts, he was unresponsive and later pronounced dead. The incident has left the community in shock, prompting a thorough investigation by the Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office. The coroner’s office has confirmed Hackett’s identity and is working closely with fire officials to determine the cause of the fire and any contributing factors.

Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation, assuring the public that further details would be provided once available. The loss of Hackett underscores the importance of fire safety and preparedness, especially during the colder months when such tragedies tend to occur more frequently.
